Elangomat
Serve as a guide and friend to new candidates during their Ordeal
The Elangomat program is one of the most important roles in the Order of the Arrow. Elangomats serve as guides and mentors to new candidates during their Ordeal experience.
What is an Elangomat?
The word "Elangomat" comes from the Lenape language and means "friend." An Elangomat walks alongside candidates during the Ordeal, providing encouragement and support while maintaining the traditions of the experience.
Elangomat Responsibilities
- Guide a clan of candidates through the Ordeal experience
- Participate in the same challenges as the candidates
- Provide a friendly presence and moral support
- Help candidates understand the meaning behind the experience
- Follow up with new Ordeal members after the event
How to Become an Elangomat
Any Brotherhood or Vigil Honor member in good standing can serve as an Elangomat. Training is provided before each Experience weekend. If you are interested in serving as an Elangomat, contact the Lodge Ceremonies Chairman.
