Welcome Parents
Supporting your Scout in the Order of the Arrow
Your Scout has been elected to the Order of the Arrow by their peers — a recognition of their outstanding character, camping ability, and Scout spirit. Congratulations!
What Does This Mean?
Being elected into the OA means that your Scout's fellow Scouts have recognized them as someone who lives the Scout Oath and Scout Law. This is a significant honor in Scouting.
The Ordeal
Your Scout will be invited to complete their Ordeal at one of our scheduled Experience weekends. The Ordeal is a unique experience where candidates reflect on the Scout Oath and Law through tests of service, camping, and self-reliance. It is designed to be challenging but rewarding.
What to Expect
- Your Scout will attend an Experience weekend (typically Friday evening through Sunday morning)
- All meals, activities, and camping are provided
- Your Scout should bring standard camping gear
- After completing the Ordeal, your Scout becomes a member of the Order of the Arrow
Supporting Your Arrowman
Encourage your Scout to attend lodge events and participate in service projects. The OA provides excellent leadership development opportunities. Many of Scouting's top leaders got their start through the Order of the Arrow.
